Skopje. “Macedonian government and all state institutions and bodies want all political parties to take part in the upcoming local elections. In this sense, the government guarantees that the March 24 elections will be held in line with all international standards and they will be fair, free and democratic,” says Alexandar Georgiev, spokesperson of the Macedonian government, as cited by Macedonian Utrinski Vesnik daily.

Georgiev expressed pity about the decision of some political parties not to run at the local elections in March. The spokesperson was explicit that the elections would be held on March 24 and they would be in line with the Constitution and the laws.

Biggest oppositional party in Macedonia, the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM), officially decides not to take part in the elections.
