In a major scandal, the IT director of the National Agency for Information Society (AKSHI) of Albania, Erisa Fero, was arrested while transporting 58 kilograms of drugs from Korytsa (Κορυτσά, Albanian: Korçë) to the border with North Macedonia.
The authorities of Pogradec, in cooperation with those of Korytsa, arrested her and seized 58kg's of cannabis. The drugs, according to local media, came from the Shkodër region, where people from Fushë-Krujë and Korytsa are allegedly involved.
"From the investigations carried out, it appears that the three citizens had carried out the transport of narcotics from the city of Tirana in the direction of the Qafë Thanë area on the border with North Macedonia," said the police today.
The police intervention took place in the Qafë-Thanë area, near a restaurant. Fero was driving the vehicle that transported the drugs.
In the same car, which was full of cannabis in the boot, was the son of a prominent businessman from Fushë-Krujë and a 17-year-old, identified only with the initials MK.
At the same time, police are still looking for two people, a 30-year-old and a 28-year-old, residents of the village of Piskupat. The last two escaped the police at the scene.
According to authorities, the criminal group believed that the specific area would be outside the attention of the police because it is mountainous and very close to the border.
An investigation is currently underway to identify and arrest two other individuals and their connections.
Fero was also involved in an election scandal
On December 22, 2021, Fero was reported for illegality to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), along with 21 other commissioners. Fero was a member of a vote counting committee in a constituency.
However, the results of the votes were falsified in the Commission in which she participated, with the competent committee filing a complaint with the prosecutor's office in Tirana against 21 commissioners, including Fero.
The young woman has been accused of participating in the manipulation of the April 25, 2021 elections, as well as removing or adding votes in favour of candidates of different parties.
On Instagram, the 28-year-old often showed off her special and lavish lifestyle, while high on her profile is a video showing her shooting. "This is what it's like when your grandfather raises you on raki and Kalashnikovs," she wrote.
In other images she is seen smoking a cigar.
It is worth mentioning that a few hours after the revelation that the 28-year-old has been arrested, the Intelligence Service announced that it she is no longer associated with them.
"Following a statement by the Local Police Directorate of Korytsa, with the arrest of 3 citizens, including Mrs. Fero, AKSHI announces that: based on the current Albanian legislation, it has immediately initiated the procedure to dismiss that person.
"Mrs. Fero, was an employee of the e-Albania sector as a director. The National Agency for Information Society condemns any illegal act and assures that it will always stand by the procedures of the institutions that act in favour of the law."
