Encyclopaedic example

UNACCEPTABLE: Albanian prime minister Sali Berisha said that the content of Macedonia’s encyclopaedia was “unacceptable” and asked Macedonian authorities to adopt a clear position on the issue because “no one’s identity can be based on false history”.

A few weeks after Macedonia was told by European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn that it could start accession negotiations this year, Macedonian academics caused great distress in and outside the country by publishing a new Macedonian encyclopaedia in two volumes.

The Macedonian Academy of Science and Arts (MASA) published a limited run of the book on September 17. Copies quickly sold out, prompting MASA to consider a re-print. Passages in the encyclopaedia immediately angered Macedonia’s Albanian population and led to three other countries lodging official protests with the Macedonian government.

History has always been a sensitive issue in the Balkans, especially in the past 20 years when Macedonia has been engaged in heated arguments with its neighbours – mainly Greece and Bulgaria – about historical facts and myths. It is enough to mention Macedonia’s name dispute with Greece and how it has hindered the former’s foreign policy efforts.

As for Macedonia’s relationship with Bulgaria, the issue lately has been not so much whether King Samuil was Bulgarian or Macedonian (although that argument is still brewing) but on whether Bulgarians have oppressed Macedonians over the past 60 years or vice versa....

Albanian opposition to protest alleged vote fraud

Associated Press

Albania's opposition Socialist Party says it will hold a rally next week to protest alleged vote rigging by Prime Minister Sali Berisha's governing Democratic Party.

The Socialists are boycotting the new parliament and demanding an investigation into the June 28 elections. The Democrats deny there was any vote-rigging. Berisha's conservative party and its allies control 75 of Parliament's 140 seats, and the Socialists have 65.

International election monitors have reported improvements over previous elections, but say Albania still failed to fully meet international standards. Socialist officials said Thursday the protest would be held Oct. 10 in the capital, Tirana.

Kosovo Albanians burn Macedonian flag

Tuesday, 29 September 2009

Commenting an incident taking place at a football match in Pristina, Macedonia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) says that in such sensitive moments each undertaken step should be in favor of calming, not further stirring of tensions.

Every responsible factor in the society should most fiercely condemn such extreme acts, MoFA said Tuesday in a press release. Macedonia's Liaison Offise in Pristina called on Kosovo authorities to take all legal measures for identifying and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Mutual trust and respect are being built for a long-term and each side should contribute to that effect. Kosovo, as the youngest country in the region, is expected to demonstrate its capacity in such situations to act appropriately in favor of good-neighborly relations and regional stability, the press release reads.

Macedonia's flag was set on fire yesterday in Pristina's city stadium during a football match between local clubs "Pristina" and "Vlaznimi", Kosovo media in Albanian language reported Tuesday.

Anti-Macedonian slogans were displayed on stadium's stands as well, the media said.
News outlets in Kosovo say the incident comes as a result of the "discontent stemming from the Macedonian Encyclopedia".

The leader of LAOS Party George Karatzaferis meeting with northern epirus associations in Athens

A "Coup d'etat" organized against the Greek Community

Greece to elections, Berisha divides "Omonia"

SManalysis

According to the albanian press, Vasilis Bollanos should be removed from "Omonia" as General President and to leave the political scene, organising a political trial, activating another leadership concurrent, as leadership of "Omonia", which would be under the orders of the Albanian National Strategy of the new government Berisha - Meta.

Finally came what was expected. The National Strategy of the Albanian State, is working excellent. The Greek ethnic minority leadership is divided, as a result of two factors: The functioning of the structures of the Albanian nationalist strategy as a factor of historical prejudice against the interests of Greek Epiriot community, and the second, the total indifference of the Greek state as directly responsible of the situation inside the Greek Community as a result of failed strategies of Athens for ethnic issues for the Northern Epirus.

Now everything is clear. Structures of Albanian agency services, threaten the survival and future of the Greek community in Northern Epirus. Damage to the image which Omonias has played good or bed as decisive role in political facing to the Albanian government, brought a catastrophic situation in its ranks. The Albanian state structures also have targed the only legitimate representative of HRUP who is actualy as opposition of the Albanian parliament, Evangjelos Doules.

SManalisys has provided in previous publications that the risk of a breach of the ethnic Greek minority, has long begun. With this total failure, an important role has played the Albanian state structures, since 15 years of participation as political representation of "Omonia" to the Albanian government.

Albanian state structures have organized a scenario against the "Omonia" President Vasilis Bollanos, rivalling current Minister of Labor in government of Berisha-Meta Spyro Ksera, protesting in a village of Tepelena by paramilitaries group, burning Greek flag in many cases.

According to analysis, Vasils Bollanos should be removed from "Omonia" as General President and to leave the political scene organising a political trial, activating another leadership, which would be under the orders of the Albanian National Strategy of the new government Berisha - Meta.

It is not occasional that one of the top directors of the Property Registration Agency is actually another member of "Omonia", Kosta Barka, friend of Spyros Kseras group. Those results, will bring dangerous consequences to the draft strategy for the looting of Greek properties and deterioration of relationship with Albania.
After the politic opposition decision to boycott the Albanian parliament and the new escalation to invade the leadership of the Greek Community by the Government of Berisha, the politically situation of Albania is to make more interesting in consideration as geopolitical factor of the region.

Clach between Albania and Serbia to the UN General Assemble

Serbia mocked Albania's statements about progress in Kosovo and the return of Serbian families there. To the contrary, the Serbian representative said, the Serbians in the "province of Kosovo" at the most endangered people in Europe, in what has become a crime haven.

President Boris Tadic of Serbia on Friday reiterated Belgrade’s condemnation of the independence bid of its Kosovo province, describing it as “an attempt to impose a 19th-century outcome to a 21st century challenge.”

Albania replied that Serbia's rhetoric was "old fashioned," of the type that led to "the worst war since World War Two." The Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha declared that the Independence of Kosovo is changing the efforts for peace in Balkan Region.

He stressed that the establishment of the independent state of Kosova, although only a small period of time had passed since its declaration of independence, had turned into an important factor of peace and stability in the Balkan peninsula.

Macedonian encyclopedia sparks Balkan ethnic row

REUTERS, BALKAN Thu Sep 24, 2009

"Macedonia to revise controversial encylopedia after row"

Albania, Kosovo complained about bias* Row highlights continued ethnic tensions in BalkansBy Kole CasuleSKOPJE, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Macedonia's leading academic institution said on Thursday it would revise a new encyclopedia after protests by the Balkan country's Albanian minority as well as in neighbouring Kosovo and Albania.

The row has highlighted the still fragile ethnic balance which led to fighting in Macedonia in 2001 and wars during the 1990s elsewhere in the former Yugoslavia. The encyclopedia sparked outrage by saying ethnic Albanians settled the region in 16th century. Albanians say they were present long before Slavic tribes arrived centuries ago.

It also refers to Ali Ahmeti, leader of country's 2001 ethnic Albanian insurgency, as a war crimes suspect. Ahmeti now heads the Democratic Union for Integration, DUI, which is a junior partner in the government. The Netherlands-based UN war crimes court has investigated atrocities in the conflict but never implicated Ahmeti.

"While (the encyclopedia) will be partly rewritten, the edition will not be withdrawn," Georgi Stardelov, head of the editorial committee of Macedonia's Academy of Sciences and Arts, said in a statement. The book was first promoted last week as a key national document at an event attended by Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski.

Albanian media quoted Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha as saying the encyclopedia was "absurd and unacceptable" and said he warned Macedonian President Georgi Ivanov that no one can build "identity based on the forgery of history."In Kosovo, which has unresolved border issues with Macedonia, parliament president Jakup Krasniqi said that Skopje was "isolating itself and making enemies.

"Ethnic Albanians account for a quarter of the population in the nation of two million which peacefully seceded from Yugoslavia in 1992.In 2001 ethnic Albanians launched an insurgency which ended after a Western-brokered peace deal disarmed rebels in exchange for broader Albanian rights and their inclusion in the society, something which riles many Macedonians who are Slavs. Some Macedonian academics criticised the book as hastily prepared and politically motivated.

"Any encyclopedia cannot be written under the influence of politicians," said Milan Gjurcinov, an Academy of Arts and Sciences member. "It is a book teeming with politics and that's not good."Gjurcinov warned that a similar dispute between Serb and Croat academics in the 1980s contributed to the rise of nationalism that led to the bloody breakup of former Yugoslavia.

Tirana, about the collapse history of 1997

The history of education system of Albania for the year of 1997, shows as a rebellion led by Albanian opposite (Socialist Party) , while in fact are killed about 6 thousand people by the "Civil War" after the collapse of pyramidal schemes

PHOTO: THE ALBANIAN REBELLION 1997

Socialist Party has accused the Prime Minister Sali Berisha as author of text history that are learning in Albanian. The period of the year 1997, by historians of Albania Academy shows as a rebellion led by the Socialist Party against Sali Berisha's Democratic state.

Accdording to CNN, the year of 1997 was a "Civil War" in Albania, which was result of the collapse by the pyramid schemes and the main responsibility at that time was Sali Berisha, the president at that time. In the Civil War in Albania, were killed about 6 thousand people, mostly fought against each other between the North (Gegh population near Albanians of Kosovo) and
South (Tosk population near Greek epirots).

Meanwhile, the Albanian press writes today about the reactions for Macedonian Encyclopedia in which Albanians are shown as people come from north (Albanian Gegh tribe) in the 16th century. Apparently the silence of Tirana itself shows that it is involved in this chaos, since geghe from northern Albania since 1991, have occupied lands of southern people.

The biggest cities of the country, Tirana, Durres, Korce, Vlore even to Saranda. The result of "occupation" at the time of modern Albania is clear: 300 thousand houses built on robbery land.

BIRN Probe Triggers World Bank Reforms

In the January report, Balkan Insight published details of an internal investigation by the Bank’s own Inspection Panel, which accused the Bank's management of using the Albanian coastal zones management project to selectively demolish parts of the village in April 2007, leaving many families homeless. The panel also noted corruption allegations in relation to the project and efforts by World Bank officials to cover up events.

by Besar Likmeta

Demolished house in JaleThe World Bank has instituted a comprehensive review after Balkan Insight lifted the lid on “appalling mistakes” made in a project to protect coastal zones project, in which an Albanian village was demolished

After the investigative report, published on January 31, revealed that the World Bank project, had contributed to the demolition of Jale village, on the country's southern coast, contravening the institution's policies on forced displacement, a Bank-wide review was triggered of projects that involve land use planning.

The review, launched by the Operational Police Country Services Vice-Presidency and the Legal Vice Presidency of the World Bank, involved the identification and examination of safeguard mechanisms for over 130 projects that were either in preparation or under supervision.

MANU's Encyclopedia causes stir

Macedonian Encyclopedia, presented Thursday at MANU's premises caused a stirr among the Albanian community and the US/UK Embassies. Daily paper Koha writes that the encyclopedia contains numerous "inaccuracies".

Two are mentioned as the most contradictory, the alleged training by U.S. and British specialists of the KLA members in the 2001 conflict, which caused a reaction of the US Embassies and UK Embassies in Skopje, both claiming the information is 'false' and 'ridiculous'.

Lets review this. This alleged training according to several British papers (Sunday Times, The Guardian, etc) did take place and at the time was a widely acknowledged fact in army circles and Balkan media.

Does anyone remember Aracinovo? Flashpoint: Over 200 Albanian terrorists were surrounded by the Macedonian Army. The Albanians laid down their weapons and put their underwear on sticks to give a sign of their surrendering (captured by TV crews). NATO prevented the Macedonian army from entering Aracinovo, went into the village utilizing 12 busses to transport the terrorists (who had previously threathen to bomb the Airport) back to safety in Kosovo (2).
The following day, Deutche Welle claimed there were 19 NATO 'advisors' among the Albanians transported to Kosovo.

According to DW, NATO had panicked that the Macedonian army would capture their commanders/advisors. Later the Macedonian police entered Aracinovo and found numerous sophisticated satellite phones and equipment left behind. Though today Macedonia enjoys terrific relations with the US and the UK, facts shouldn't ashame anyone.

The second "scandal" is the text which tells the story of the Albanians in Macedonia, where they are named as "shiptari" that settled in Macedonia in the 16th century.

The Albanian term for an 'Albanian' is "Shqiptar". I might have missed the "scandal" here.

The Macedonian Academy of Arts and Sciences stands behind their Encyclopedia saying it is a collective effort of numerous historians, scientists that took years to complete in which all data had been synthesized with facts and arguments that have been checked and re-checked by numerous relevant individuals and organizations. //Gorazd V.

Albanian cabinet wants to hold open meetings

The new government intends to hold open cabinet meetings to boost transparency, but needs the votes of the opposition Socialist Party (SP) to adopt such a law, Prime Minister Sali Berisha said on Thursday (September 17th).

Earlier in the day, his government was sworn in. Berisha chaired the first cabinet meeting, where he again urged the SP-led opposition to stop its boycott and return to parliament.

The SP insists the June 28th general election was manipulated and refuses to back down, despite calls from Brussels that such political debate should take place in parliament.

SManalysis

US supports OSCE critics on Albanian elections, while EU undecided to be important factor about Albania way to EU

SManalysis

Brussels must declare clearly that if Albania has capacity to make or not free elections, while the Albanian opposition, opposes with full legitimacy the right that Albania does not have standards for elections.
When Albania presented the request to be admitted to EU last April, the European Union relocated clear: firstly, make free elections with standard. Today we have another reality: without standard elections once again .....

Otherwise, the political abuse of government Berisha 2, could turn Albania into a totalitarian state. This fact, Albania is not prepared to develop early elections that could bring the popular protests if the government must come to a possible economic crisis.

In addition the US Embassy in Tirana issued a statement Wednesday supporting the OSCE's final report on the June 28th general elections. "We welcome the improvements from previous elections described in the report, such as an improved legal framework and voter registration process. These areas marked tangible progress over previous elections," the embassy said in a statement.

However, it also mentioned some shortcomings. "There were issues noted in vote counting and tabulation, as well as in media bias for the main political parties." The statement also cited questionable actions and pressure by political parties and the government during the campaign

The administrate of the school was forced to parents explaining that a government decision to impose taxes to "Arsakeio Foundation" has set in great difficulties of Greek College the high officials.

But nothing could justify the attitude of the Greek Ministry of Education, which under the Greek Constitution must guarantees all children including children of Greek Diaspora from North Epirus to learn free the mother Greek language.
Dule: "Albania, no democratic standards last elections"

The Chairman of HRUP Vangjel Dule speaking in the Albanian parliament declared that "Albania has no democratic standard elections"

"Berisha government program was not provided voting emigrants and a specific completion of the requirements of the Council of Europe Convention on Minorities" said the Chairman HRUP, Vangjel Dule.

During his speech, Dule declared also for the representing of Greek minority inside the Albanian government as a demagogy noted that "the only a Greek represent party such as HRUP which is in political opposition, represent officially all minorities".

In addition, Dule critics the Berisha government's efforts to robber lands in the Ionian coastal area, Himare and Lukova regions. Dule also stressed that the Albanian government had not new project for emigrants. Dule once expressed his position that minorities do not enjoy any right provided by the Framework Convention of the Council of Europe and that there is no official representation of the Greek minority.

by PERDIKIS

Berisha: No place in the Albanian government for Catholics

by Pjerin Lumaj

On September 11, 2009, Albanian’s PM, Salih Berisha, formed the new government consisting 14 ministers. One thing cannot escape the eyes and minds of Albanians, though: None of Mr. Berisha’s ministers are of the Catholic faith. Is it because Berisha is not well informed about the contribution and sacrifices that Catholics have made to politics, arts, culture, science, etc., in Albania, or is it because he knows their exceptional ability to lead Albania out of the status qua, but he does not wish for such a thing to transpire yet?

Even if Albanians believe that Berisha is not well informed about the contributions made by Catholics, his advisors, argue Albanians, could have reminded him of Gjon Buzuku, Pjeter Bogdani, Pjeter Budi, Gjergj Fisha, Gjergj Kastrioti, Nre Mjeda, Mother Theresa, to mention a few. But Albanians appear not to believe this argument. They know better.

The series of explosions at the munitions site on March 15, 2008, also left 300 people injured and damaged 5,500 houses outside the capital Tirana.

HOW THE ALBANIAN MAFIA HIDE THE ALBANIAN IDENTITY, PRESENTING AS GREEKS FROM SOUTHERN ALBANIA?

The alleged boss, arrested at Malpensa for murder, was putting together a line of ferries in the Canale d 'Otranto.

"Killer accompanied the Albanian mission in Strasbourg"

"Politicians have given personal guarantees, but the financiers were not trusted"

The names and documents changes: from 'original Gazmend Mahmutaj to Raqi Gjoni from Eduart Toska to Kristo Dako, in all the cases changed to greeks of albania even assuming anothr still, the generality 'of Spyridon Malamatenios. For this mission 'high level was not afraid of obstacles. Moved along with two leaders of the governing coalition: Eduard Andoni, the Socialist Party, and Fatmir Mediu, the Republican Party, both with diplomatic passes. Along with their third government official, Artur Nuro.

George Tenet was a convenient fall guy

by Joel Weinberg

George Tenet is a registered Democrat. That he was allowed stay on at a senior post when George W. Bush took office is curious. The decision supposedly came from George H.W. Bush, the old CIA chief, who advised his son to preserve continuity in the intelligence community. Also, he liked the guy. Everyone did.

A product of public schools in Queens, Tenet graduated from Georgetown University and thoroughly became a creature of Washington. His first gig was as an aide to a solar power lobby. From there, he worked his way up the ladder until, in 1997, he found himself the Director of Central Intelligence under President Bill Clinton. Tenet did not have any special expertise in intelligence and covert operations. What he did have was a large personality. His outgoing warmth was a magnet for large egos that needed soothing.

The CIA had gone through a period of high turnover and declining budgets. It was an agency that was struggling with its image, much like Gene Simmons after KISS took off their make-up. The CIA was trying to define its role in the post-Cold War world. Tenet knew that the focus must be on independent terrorist networks, instead of enemy governments. He was credited with almost immediately boosting the morale of the downtrodden agents.

Tenet also developed a pleasant relationship with George W. Bush, despite their differing party affiliations. They had similar straight-talking styles sprinkled with sports metaphors that created a favorable environment for communication. The Bushies, however, were more circumspect in their dealings with Tenet. His close relationships with Colin Powell and Richard Armitage surely did not help Tenet in gaining access to the inner circle.

In 1998, two U.S. embassies in Africa were bombed. In 1999, Tenet had CIA operatives on the ground in Afghanistan. They were closing in on a plan to take out the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Bill Clinton did not give the go ahead to the mission. Politically, it could be viewed as a cynical distraction from Clinton's embarrassing liasions. Legally, there were qualms about targeted assassinations.

In 2000, the U.S.S. Cole was attacked. When Bush took office, Tenet again asked for increased authority in chasing and catching the bad guys. Bush refused, needing more time to develop his administration's attitude toward engaging terrorists. Tenet did go ahead and order the development of the Strategic Assessments Branch of the Counter-Terrorism Center. After much delay, the Branch went into action September 10, 2001.

Tenet was likely one of only a handful of people in the United States who immediately identified the culprits of the 9/11 attacks. He had considered Bin Laden his most formidable adversary for years, and now he knew that Bush would let the gloves come off, and he would be given the permission to crush our enemies. In the weeks following the attacks, the CIA fielded a lot of criticism for failing to prevent the bloodshed. Tenet claimed that he told Condoleezza Rice in the summer of 2001 that immediate action was needed to be taken inside Afghanistan. Rice disputes the urgency of Tenet's message.

When Bush was debating how to enter Afghanistan to take out the Taliban and destroy Al Qaeda, the Pentagon did not have much of a plan. Despite the considerable brow-beating abilities of Donald Rumsfeld, the lumbering Defense Department was in the developing stages of a plan of attack.

The CIA was ready. The Worldwide Attack Matrix drawn up under Tenet provided the first marching orders of the War on Terror. The CIA took the lead in an armed conflict for the first time. CIA spooks and assassins would end up fighting alongside military special operations. The Taliban was crushed. Al Qaeda was scattered, but the big fish swam away through the vortex of Tora Bora.

The CIA had been effective in funding and arming the normally dysfunctional Northern Alliance, which greatly helped defeating the Taliban. The inability to find warlords suitable enough to be on the payroll in the Eastern and Southern parts of Afghanistan was the major reason that Bin Laden was able to escape.

When the Bush administration abruptly turned its' attention to Iraq, the glory days for George Tenet and the CIA were over. The Pentagon took the lead in this build-up for war. Tenet could not find the Al Qaeda-Saddam links that Dick Cheney kept pressuring the CIA to unearth.
This was the time of the infamous "Slam Dunk" comment. It was not about going to Iraq being a Slam Dunk. It was not that the intelligence provided made invading Iraq a Slam Dunk. The real reason behind Dunkgate was more cynical. Tenet agreed that presenting Saddam's stockpile of WMD's as the public rationale for invading Iraq would be a Slam Dunk. It is deplorable that Dick Cheney and the former president himself later framed Dunkgate as the trigger that set the Iraq invasion in motion.

Tenet did believe that Saddam possessed a considerable stockpile of dangerous weapons. Although he had no hard evidence of this, he did not think that France would steer us in the wrong direction, no matter how many Freedom Fries. Tenet sat behind Colin Powell as the Secretary of State delivered the speech to the U.N. that would end both of their political careers.

Dick Cheney kept insisting that Saddam attempted to purchase uranium in Africa. The CIA had already debunked this claim, and Tenet repeatedly tried to get Cheney to tone down the rhetoric, but he did not try hard enough. The rarity, in this case, is that Tenet admits to this fact. He knows that if he felt strongly enough in opposition to all the administrations's claims and strategies regarding Iraq, he should have confronted Bush, Cheney, and Rice.

Tenet resigned in 2004, when the Iraq War was approaching its nadir and shortly before Powell and Armitage made their exits. George Bush then awarded George Tenet the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The old knife in one side and a medal on the other.
George Tenet still lies awake at night, feeling guilty about not preventing the 9/11 attacks. He is a passionate, emotional man. Stakes were high, and fatal mistakes were made. Unfortunately, Tenet approached his job in the fashion of a hard-working, loyal bureaucrat. This was not good enough in the face of Neo-Cons wearing rose-colored glasses and executives with biblical notions of Good vs. Evil.

Albanian PM Berisha, names new cabinet

Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha named his new cabinet on Wednesday shortly after his appointment earlier in the day by President Bamir Topi.

Berisha named Ilir Meta, leader of the Socialist Movement for Integration party, as foreign minister, with whom he formed an indispensable alliance to stay in power.

Berisha's Democratic Party won 70 seats in the 140-seat parliament. It teamed up with Meta's left-wing party, which garnered four seats in the country's June 28 general elections, to form a majority.

Berisha also appointed right-wing Republican leader Fatmir Mediu, a former defense minister, as environment minister.

Mediu had been indicted for breach of duty over a blast that killed 26 and injured 300 people at an ammunition depot last year near the capital city of Tirana.

It was reported that a group of leading Albanian journalists and political commentators had signed an open letter and petitioned against his appointment.

The main opposition Socialist Party, which won 66 seats in the elections, is boycotting the parliament, claiming the Democratic Party rigged the elections and calling for investigations.

Berisha denied all the accusations.
SPIRO KSERA, NEW LABOR MINISTER OF BERISHA`S GOVERNMENT

For the first time since 1991 the Greek minority is living a dangerous period, separated politically between government and Albanian opposition

Needs urgent the interference of the Greek political opposition for the situation that is happening inside the Greek community of Albania

Now, everyone not believe that the hopes to build a new formation of leadership for the Greek community in Albania, will bring new moments in Tirana, which actualy controls everything that has to do with political future of hellenism in Albania.

All those actions are configuring just this time when in Greece the early politic elections, are in process, when the government of Berisha, still not known from albanian oposittion is adding efforts to establish a new control in the political leadership of the Greek community in Albania.

I`ts very important to undestant that the division of the greek community by the "foreign factors" should bring new conseguences to the relations between Tirana and Athens, since the Greek Foreign Ministry and the Greek Embassy in Tirana, continue to have total responsibility.

Four years ago the Greek Ambassador in Tirana, Karkabasis was accused from the greek organisations in Albania as "persona non grata" for the flirt policy that he suported the Albanian government against the interest of the Greek Community.

Albania opposition party boycotts parliament

By LLAZAR SEMINI
Associated Press

2009-09-08

Albania's Socialist opposition boycotted an inaugural session of parliament Monday, claiming conservative Prime Minister Sali Berisha rigged his re-election victory in June 28 polls.

Berisha's Democratic Party and allies control 70 seats in the 140-member parliament, while the Socialists and their supporters have 66 seats. The leftist LSI party, with the four remaining seats, has agreed to join a coalition with Berisha's Democrats.

Berisha denies allegations of interfering in the vote counting process, but international monitors have cited irregularities before a final report from observers expected this month.

Albania, which joined NATO this year and is seeking EU membership, wants to improve its election record, which in the past has been marred by violence and irregularities.

The Socialists are demanding that parliament investigate the election fraud allegations, and pass legislation required for the process. Socialist leader Edi Rama said that would "secure the transparency of our claims about irregularities."

It was not immediately clear whether the Socialists would continue their boycott beyond Monday's opening session. The next session is Tuesday. Berisha is expected to announce his new 14-member Cabinet this week.

Terrorism in Greece

by Ioannis Michaletos

Originally appeared in the World Security Network (1st of September 2009)

Recent news updates from leading Greek media citing commentary and exclusive information from high-level police and security circles indicate that arrests are underway regarding domestic terrorist groups that have managed over the past 5 years to launch impressive attacks against a variety of state, diplomatic and police targets.

According to the reports, there are indications that the Greek anti-terrorist unit and the Greek intelligence service have managed to acquire valuable information relating to the culprits of the attacks and several journalists have noted that arrests cannot be ruled out within the coming weeks.

The two most sought-after terrorist groups in Greece are the "Revolutionary Struggle" and the "Revolutionary Sect". The former appeared in late 2003 and has launched a series of attacks since then, the most important being the rocket attack against the US Embassy in Athens on January the 12th 2007.

The latter appeared in early 2009 and has attacked a TV station, public buildings and fatally wounded an anti-terrorist police Sergeant in June this year.
The present article will provide several notes and information regarding the attack against the American Embassy in Athens, streaming from news reports at that time and public commentary thereafter in the Greek and international media.

The HRUP decides to support the Albanian opposite

Not to the government with Berisha

Vangjelos Doules, has decided in the name of HRUP to stay in politic opposition with Socialist Party, against Berisha-Meta`s Government The Doulos statements made after the discussion held in the press conference of HRUP building at 14.00. The Crossroad of HRUP (The Human Rights Union Party)

SManalysis

The Strategy for which is established HRUP is clear, to be the only force in opposition to denounce violations of human rights in Albania. HRUP needs unity but over all, to reform itself and should open to all North Epiriotes.

Photo: HRUP slogan during campagne politic elelections in Albania, June 28, 2009

Which is the future of HRUP? To be ruling as always with the winners compromised by Albanian State strategy against Hellenic community interests, or reformed, to promote access to create a new policy?

As always the represent of political class of Greeks in Albania, has compromised the interests of the community being partner of Albanian government under the name "Friendly Bridge". This has happened since the time of dictator Hoxha and still is happening now. Since 15 years HRUP goes with the winners of parliamentary elections with extraordinary indifference of Athens to manage the political situation in Albania in favor of the Greek Community. In contrast to last politic campaign elections opn June 28, the slogan that is supported strongly the HRUP by PASOK and ND should be falls or defeat!

Now the question is: HRUP must joint to the new government coalition with Berisha - Meta or not? The reason that I understand is simple: The greek community wants to build a strong opposition to be confronted with the interests of the Albanian politically mafia, which is very strong in power installed, that with laws and government decisions, wants to "adopt" properties of north epiriotes?

If we are actually confronted politically with a new crise in which the socialist opposition boycotts the Albanian parliament, which would be the new strategy of HRUP: Does HRUP accepts parliamentary elections in Albania as a regular with standards, when NATO and OSCE declared that Albania has no progress and democratic standards on last elections? Why HRUP should joint to the Berisha-Meta new Government?

HRUP must now have the only strategy: to reform itself with its opening for northepirus community and to join with the opposition Socialists party may be to the new Left Federation headed by Socialist Party, to raise the voice to the international community for the robbery lands and properties of the Greek community and violation of dimensions of human rights in Albania.

"Strategy and Analysis", SManalysis

Photo: "The struggle for power wich brought dividing HRUP"

WHAT WE CAN DO WITH HRUP?

Observing the anticipated politic elections in Greece on Octtober 4 , the HRUP should take important political responsibilities, first of all an important to the new total reformation.

HRUP (The Human Rights Union Party) is in a reform process transformation and as such, all present should follow this strategy only on the way of being in opposition and not division portfolios often corrupted by any Albanian leadership.

HRUP must begins the way of development and big transformation only on the interests of northern epirus community which should have cleare the strategy only to this way solution:

1. To remain in the opposition united to support a Federation on the left politic specter together with Socialist Party.

2. To reform themselves to involvement in the democratic vote of all northern epiriotes.

3. The selection and carried under a democratic reform voting for the all northern epiriotes resident in Greece, USA and Albania (with electronic card).

4. This form to be an example for the inclusion of northern epiriotes in the next politic early elections in Albania.

5. The high forums of HRUP to be resigned and to have the open door to select by the new system of voting process.

6. The voting electronic process to get the dimensions for the future of political and civil rights for all members of the greek community in the international scene.
