EP approves resolution for Albania

EP approves resolution for Albania
The Foreign Commission of the European Parliament passed the resolution of the rapporteur for Albania, the Croatian European Parliament Member, Nikola Vuljanic, which recommends the candidate status for Albania.

With 49 votes in favor, one abstaining and none against, the resolution achieved the necessary votes a few days before the Council of Foreign Ministers in the European Union decided about Albania’s candidate status.

During the discussions they underlined the need for cooperation between the government and opposition. The resolution recognizes the progress made by Albania for fulfilling the integration objectives and especially for reaching the reforms asked by Brussels, while the Albanian authorities have still much to do in the fight against organized crime, corruption and independence of the judiciary. By supporting the proposition of the European Commission, the resolution appeals the Council to recognize Albania’s progress by giving the candidate status.
