It's not clear how may others may have been injured in the shooting, while the fifth victim is the killer's ex-girlfriend, whose body was found in an apartment, reports say.

DPA says that Finnish police identified the suspect as being a 43-year-old "Kosovo native" with a criminal record, and named him as Ibrahim Shukpoli.

News agencies say that police believe to they found the body of the shooter, who appears to have killed himself.

Media reports said earlier that a lone gunman dressed in black opened fire at the shopping centre in Finland's second largest city.

An eyewitness was quoted as saying one or more people had been shot at a grocery store in the mall, and that one employee was seen lying on the floor in the shop.

Security services have cordoned off the shopping centre and public transport services have been rerouted
