Political Action

The American Hellenic Council, along with other Greek-American and Armenian-American organizations lobbied against HR 2362, aiming to give preferrential treatment to Turkish firms in doing business with Native American Tribes.

Unfortunately, HR 2362, sponsored by the Turkish Coalition of America, passed the vote on the Indian and Alaska Native Affairs Subcommittee of the House of Representatives in late November. The bill was opposed by Rep. Sarbanes (MD) who offered an amendment to the bill expressing concerns about giving preferred access to Turkish over other business interests. Also vocal in opposing the bill were , Rep. Niki Tsongas (MA) and Rep. Frank Pallone (NJ). The American Hellenic Council praises those members of Congress for their position on the issue.
