Topi, Census: ultra nationalists undermined the legal process


Bamir Topi, the President of Albania, said today that the issue of population census in the country is turning into a debate because of interference from ultra nationalist circles and not because the term registration of the population, because as he said this is legitimacy process to be followed.

After a meeting held in Tirana on Monday with President George Ivanov, President Bamir Topi was asked by the Macedonian media that, why in the census lists based on the term ethnic sllavo Macedonians there.

The head of state stressed that among his Macedonian counterpart Georgi Ivanov also discussed the census, what the presidents was followed by debate in the Balkans, because of the plea of ​​nationality and religion are two of the requirements of EU legal framework.

But the President stressed that Albania has faced this issue in a great debate and not without reason.

A week ago, the Albanian government, postponed the census process, being justified that were delayed due to local elections.

Meanwhile the Greek government has cast doubt on this process, which is to make requested by the European Union, giving 10 million euros funding.
