Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis announced a gradual reinforcement of police services in Attica with around 1,400 officers.

Chrysochoidis made the announcement during the annual event of the Attica Police Employees’ Union on Saturday, 7 February 2026, in the presence of Hellenic Police Chief Lieutenant General Dimitrios Mallios, senior officers, government ministers, MPs, and representatives of political parties and unions.

He said the first 600 officers will strengthen Attica police services and local stations in spring, while the remaining 800 will staff directorates by autumn.

Chrysochoidis said the plan aims to strengthen every police station in Attica and ensure that Crime Investigation and Detection Departments remain fully staffed.

He also congratulated police personnel for what he described as major achievements in 2025 and said the leadership will prioritise improving income and working conditions for Attica’s police officers in 2026.

The minister added that authorities will pay the leadership allowance to all eligible recipients in the coming days, based on the relevant ministerial decision.

Chrysochoidis urged officers to continue in 2026 with the same dedication, using strategy, new technology, and ambitious goals to improve public safety across Attica and Greece.

During the event, Archimandrite and Police Captain Father Alexios Kourtesis, head of the Hellenic Police Religious Service, blessed the union’s traditional New Year’s cake. Greekcitytimes
