Albania, New price for electricity
11/10/2014
New price for electricity
The Minister of Finances, Shkelqim Cani, met with the International Monetary Fund representatives in Washington for the annual negotiations. Cani declared that the 300 kilowatt limit will be removed.

The Minister said that the new price will be unified, different from the current scheme, which makes families pay 7.7 ALL until 300 kilowatt, and 13.5 if this limit is crossed.

Although the new price was not made public, the Minister of Finances insinuated that it will be somewhere in the middle of 7.7 and 13.5. The Minister said that the purpose of this plan is not to increase prices, but to reduce losses, since a unified fee will reduce the chances of abuses.

But this new fee will be more expensive for most of the Albanian families, making them pay more. The Minister of Finances says that the government is looking into other ways for compensating the poor.

The decision for the energy price will be taken in December by the Energy Regulation System, which has not made any declaration for the media so far. But the surprise declaration from the Minister of Finances from Washington confirms that all citizens will pay a new price for energy in the next year.
