Albanian Foreign Ministry: Crimea referendum, illegal
The Albanian Foreign Ministry reacted regarding the Crimean referendum of March 16th, considering it dangerous and illegal.

The Ministry says that the referendum goes against the Constitution of Ukraine and international laws, and cannot be used for changing the status of Crimea.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs appeals the Russian Federation to stop their actions in support of this dangerous and destabilizing initiative, which damages Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns every claim that the independence declaration of Crimea should be seen in the same way as that of Kosovo.

The statement says that this is a misuse of the Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice on Kosovo's independence, to justify the legality of the referendum proposed in Crimea, and that there is no legal basis and no resemblance to the historical and factual circumstances.

The Foreign Ministry appeals parties to address to a peaceful solution through direct dialogue and diplomatic instruments, and refrain from unilateral acts and rhetoric that increases tension.
