An Albanian Cultural Garden in Rockefeller Park will be dedicated Saturday, Sept. 22, beginning at 4:30 p.m. with live music by an Albanian string trio.
The dedication commemorates the 100th anniversary of Albania's independence from the Ottoman Turks and marks the unveiling of a memorial statue of Albanian-born Mother Teresa.
The program features a number of dignitaries, including Albanian President Bujar Nishani, Albanian Ambassador Gilbert Galanxhi and Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson. Councilwoman Dona Brady is master of ceremonies.
The event includes the release of a dozen white doves, the placing of 100 roses at the feet of the statue and the sprinkling of Albanian soil at the site.
The garden is along Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, just south of the MLK exit off the Shoreway.
Following the dedication, there will be a celebration at Brennan's Party Center, 13000 Triskett Road, Cleveland, for guests with tickets.
The dedication marks completion of the garden's first phase, built at a cost of $90,000. For the second phase, there are plans for paths, benches, a fountain and additional statues.
