Attack on monk reflects situation in field

BELGRADE -- Oliver Ivanović on Wednesday strongly condemned the assault on a Serbian Orthodox monk in southern, ethnic Albanian part of Kosovska Mitrovica.
Serbian Orthodox Church monk Mitrofan was beaten up by two unidentified persons on Wednesday.
In a statement for Tanjug, the state secretary of the Ministry for Kosovo said that the attack on a Serb monk wearing his robe was "an indicator of the real situation in the field".

“Being too busy with political activities, it seems that the Kosovo police and EULEX cannot manage to fulfill their duty to protect all citizens,” he said.

Ivanović added that it was "easy to identify the monk as a Serb".

Therefore he was an easy target, said the official, noting at the same time that other Serbs were just as much in danger - "but that it was more difficult to identify them (as Serbs) in civilian clothes".
