Giannoulias Leads the Democratic Pack for February 2nd Primary

Chicago, IL.- Illinois Democrats will choose their Senate nominee on Tuesday, and State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias holds the lead in all the polls, going into the final weekend. One-out-of four likely primary voters remain undecided. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely Democratic Primary voters finds Giannoulias with 31%of the vote, followed by Chicago Inspector General David Hoffman with 23%. Cheryle Jackson, president of the Chicago Urban League and a former top aide to disgraced Governor Rod Blagojevich, is next at 13%.

Nine percent (9%) prefer some other candidate. Twenty-four percent (24%) are not sure whom they’ll vote for.

Roland Burris, who Blagojevich appointed to fill out the remainder of President Obama’s Senate term, is not running for a full term.

A new Public Policy Polling survey shows him gaining traction in a general election matchup against Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.).

The survey shows Giannoulias holding an eight-point lead over Kirk, 42 to 34 percent. The two candidates were tied at 35 percent in the last PPP survey last April.
