74 Issues raised by Athens with Veto, against Albania
The Vice President of the Commission, Margaritis Schinas, has expressed harsh criticism of Albania's position in the case of Fredis Beleris, during his visit to Brussels.
"Not a single accession chapter will be opened with Albania if the Beleri issue is not resolved," said Margaritis Schinas during meetings at the headquarters of the European Commission.
The Vice President of the Commission declares that Greece has so far presented 74 vetoes against Albania's membership in the European Union.
"Our friends in Tirana, I think, underestimated the European dimension of this issue," said the vice president of the European Commission, referring to the decision to postpone until December 11 the examination of Fredis Beleris' request for the oath.
He noted that this is neither a good nor a bad development. The bad development would be a rejection of the application, he said characteristically, closing his position by saying that "Albanians have messed up very badly with this issue and will not get out of it if they don't solve it".
