Albanian police arrest man outside US embassy over alleged threat after visas denied

TIRANA, Albania — Albanian police say they have arrested a man outside the U.S. embassy in Tirana after he allegedly threatened to set fire to a bottle of petrol, in an apparent visa protest.

Police say the 27-year-old man told them he was angry at having two applications for a U.S. visa rejected.

Police spokeswoman Alma Katragjini said Monday that the suspect was holding a bottle of petrol and matches outside the embassy entrance.

Katragjini says he was being questioned by anti-terrorist police.

A U.S. embassy spokesman declined to comment on the incident.
