“We will defend our interests”
The government says that there is no official proposition from Macedonia regarding the deviation of the Radika River.

The Minister of Energy and Industry, Damian Gjiknuri, declared that if the project damages the interests of Albania, the government will ask a solution based on international agreements.

“If the project will affect the Albanian waters, the solution is provided by the international water rules. We will wait to see the project from the technical point of view and if there will be consequences for the assets of our country. Certainly that the Albanian government will hold a position for respecting the agreements and the interests of our country. No one should play politically on this”, Gjiknuri declared.

One day ago, the Dibra Civil Alliance which is fighting against the deviation of rivers, protested in front of the Albanian government and asked that our officials should not sign for the deviation of the Radika river by the Macedonian side. According to them, the Macedonian project aims the construction of an aqueduct in the Kosovo-Macedonia-Albania triangle, and build a hydropower plant in Lukova, but by deviating the Radika River, which pours in the Drin cascade.
