Arrested fugitive who escaped Greek prison
“Do what you want with me, but don’t send me back to Greece”. This was said by the fugitive Ilir Kupa when arrested by the Tirana Police, 10 months after escaping from a Greek prison.

Ilir Kupa, 27, escaped on March 2013 from the Trikala prison together with 10 other inmates, three of whom were killed. Two of them were Marjan Kola and Edison Lika The Greek police informed the Albanian authorities this summer, saying that Kupa might have entered Albania together with another fugitive.

One of the sources said for Top Channel that crime agents and special forces had been surveilling a suburb area in Tirana, until they found Ilir Kupa. A police patrol stopped a vehicle with foreign plates, on which there were three people. Right after this operation, the police followed the car and blocked all exits.

Kupa’s car went off road and there has even been some fire exchange with the police. Two other people left the scene while the police arrested Kupa. Inside the car there were weapons and masks, which makes the investigators suspect that it may be the same group that robbed a mall jewelry with Santa Claus costumes. This suspicion came after the Greek authorities notified for a robbery with people masked as doctors. The police is offering 10.000 EUR for the other person who has escaped from the Greek prison. His identify remains unknown, but the information says that he is from the city of Fier. Anyone who has information may call at 0694102932.

The Interior Minister, Saimir Tahiri, declared the operation for arresting Kupa was successful.

“This is a medal for the police. Several robberies in Tirana will be resolved with the arrest of Kupa”, Tahiri declared.
