The World Heritage Committee, UNESCO has expressed concern about the state of the two cities declared World Heritage, Berat and Gjirokastra.
They have written to the Minister of Culture, Aldo, for the situation where the following cities, warning that they will be included in the list of world heritage sites in danger.

Berat and Gjirokastra main concern relates to the lack of government control over illegal construction that kill cities. In a letter to the Minister of Tourism, the Committee expressed concern that no progress has been made in introducing a program of archaeological interventions in the event of implementation of major restorations, as well as the lack of an overall plan against fire.
