Bostinary regrets Albania's presidential election

Bostinary regrets Albania's presidential election
The former President of the delegation for the Southeastern European Countries at the European Parliament, Viktor Bostinar, reacted after the election of the Albanian President through a press release in which he expresses his concern about the way Prime Minister Berisha and the Democratic Party decided to manage the presidential elections.

“The respect for the democratic principles and the election of a consensual Head of State would have a key importance for the 12 key priorities”, Bostinaru declared.

According to him, the European Parliament Commission has made clear their hopes that Albania would finally elect a president that would officially and really represent the unity of the country, not a president that expresses the will of only one political party.

“Unfortunately, this was not the case with Albania. Mr.Berisha showed once again his inability to work based on consensus”, the declaration continues.

“It is a legitimate right of the Albanian Parliament to elect their President, but the way how Mr.Berisha and the Democratic Party imposed their candidate, who was their own Minister of Interior, is something that raises concerns among the friends of Albania”, Bostinaru declared, while concluding his declaration with the question: When will Berisha and his party leave the personal interests aside and start turning towards the EU”
