64-year-old Papademos is a former vice president of the European Central Bank.

He was named to head the new government after several days of negotiations.

Greek PM George Papandreou resigned his office last week.

Papademos is expected to secure a new bailout payment for his debt-ridden country, and approve a EUR 130bn rescue package from eurozone and the IMF.

The new government will be sworn in on Friday in Athens, while Papademos and his cabinet are expected to be approved in parliament on Monday.
