Tsipras pays tribute at victims of Nazism memorial
First entry: 26 January 2015 - 19:10 Athens
Alexis Tsipras visited the rifle range of the
suburban town of Kesariani, east of Athens, immediately after being
sworn in as new Greek Prime Minister on Monday.
At the Kesariani shooting range, 200 leftwing Greek resistance fighters were executed on 1 May 1944 by the German occupiers as a revenge for the death of Gen. Franz Krech, who had been killed in a guerrilla ambush in the Peloponnese a few days before.
Tsipras paid tribute by laying flowers on the memorial of the executed.
A large crowd had gathered there and applauded the new PM upon his arrival.
