World Bank urges Albania to start reforms in energy sector.
December 11, 2013
The World Bank has called on Albanian authorities to find a
lasting solution to the difficulties in the energy sector, which heavily
relies on the budget's contingency funds and reserves, ATA news agency
reported, citing bank representatives. Resolving the financial
difficulties in the country's energy sector is one of the major
challenges for the government. In this regards, the World Bank has
proposed the government to rethink the electricity tariffs.
In addition,
the authorities need to address other key issues such as the power
transmission and losses in the distribution network. In October the
World Bank expressed readiness to assist the Albanian government in
analysing the situation in the country's energy sector and finding
alternatives for its development.
The international institution has
pledged to provide expertise regarding the renewable energy sector and
the review of energy strategy as well.
