Albania, a mysteriously country, the total population according to the last Census is 2.850.000, while the number of voters for the last Administrative elections May 8, 2011, was 3.166.000....????
INSTAT explains that in this number are also included the foreigners that have been living in Albania for more than one year. According to INSTAT, the population structure, which has always been dominated by the rural population, now has changed. For the first time in history, 53.7% of the population lives in the city and 46.3% in the countryside.
The results show that the number of buildings in Albania has reached 1.075.000, or 37% more than in 2001.
INSTAT says that 29.300 people refused to answer to the Census interviewers, or around 1.04% of the population. These are only the preliminary results, because INSTAT will announce later the other data regarding the religious and ethnic affiliations, the results of which are expected to be announced in the next year. The Census was greeted by representatives of the European Union, who considered it as a process that fulfilled the recommendations of Eurostat and the United Nations.
The Red and Black Alliance reacted after the results published by INSTAT, saying that these figures fulfill the desires of Serbia and Greece.
“The Albanians are the biggest population in the region, with 10 million residents, while INSTAT showed the contrary. These data damage the interests of the Albanians”, says the RBA.
The Prime Minister Berisha commented the results as the first real modern Census of the Albanians. He thanked the Albanian government and all citizens for participating in this process.
According to Berisha, the preliminary data have a positive indicator, and for the first time, the population of the cities dominated over the rural areas.
Census for the Ethnic Groups was not presented
