The crisis froze the Greek arms programme

The economic crisis has frozen the arms programme of the Greek Armed Forces, Greek newspaper To Vima reported. In attempt to deal with the chaos of arms supplies, the Greek Defence Ministry has decided not to sign the agreements for the purchase of the French frigates FREMM, the new military jet, and the Russian armoured machines BTR-3.

Instead, the ministry will speed up the supplies for spare parts for the F-16 jets and the supplies for the first batch of 15,000 100-mm shells for the tanks Leopard 2.

The German tanks were bought without ammunitions and have mainly been used for parades until now. Greece, however, plans to purchase the 6 French frigates, worth EUR 2.5 billion, in the future. >
