Director of National Intelligence of the United States, James Clapper said that despite positive developments in the Western Balkans in 2013, this year the region will continue to be characterized by deep ethnic divisions and political .
Clapper spoke today before the Senate Special Committee on Intelligence issues. He said that the situation in Bosnia - Herzegovina and Macedonia is in risk, because of ethnic divisions is particularly volatile.
Government of Macedonia, Clapper said, continues to promote programs aimed at encouraging ethnic Macedonian nationalism at the expense of Euro- Atlantic integration of the country.
The longer the country's road to EU and NATO remains blocked because of the dispute with Greece on the name issue and poor bilateral relations with Bulgaria, the greater is the risk that ethnic tensions grow.
