KM district chief speaks against "double standards"

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA -- Kosovska Mitrovica District chief Radenko Nedeljković says the international community "cannot employ" double standards in Kosovo.
There should not be "one set for the Serbs and another for the (ethnic) Albanians," he noted.
"In the 1990s the international community accepted the fact that Albanians did not want to live in Serbia, so they will also have to accept the fact that Serbs do not want to live in an independent Kosovo," Nedeljković said at a groundbreaking ceremony for a business and residential building for Serbs in Kosovska Mitrovica.

"The Serb people want to remain in the area. We are not asking for anything that is not ours, we are asking to remain in our own state - the state of Serbia," he noted.

Nedeljković said no one can convince the Serbs in northern Kosovo that they are not living in Serbia.

He also noted that the international community needs to acknowledge that the violation of basic human rights is worse in Kosovo than anywhere else in the world - the right to free movement, property, use of one's own language and alphabet.
