Albanian Banks See Euro Deposits Rising Due to Greek Crisis

Albanian State News Agency ATA says an increase of deposits in currency appears to be the highest in the last eight months. Savings in euros increased in June by 6.4 billion leks versus 2 billion leks in May (on a monthly basis).

The recent panic over Greece’s exit from the euro zone following the May 6trh elections and their repetition on June 17th  caused an outflow of capital from Greece with Albanian emigrants rushing to bring their savings to Albania.

In June only the added savings in currency accounted for 54 per cent of deposits recorded over January to June 2012.
