Albanian parliament to enable for organ trade probe?

TIRANA -- A committee of the Albanian parliament has approved a draft law that would enable EULEX to conduct its organ trafficking investigation in that country.

EULEX is the EU mission deployed in Kosovo.
In Tirana on Monday, members of the legal affairs committee "from both parties" approved the draft in principle, said reports, while on Tuesday they adopted it.

The bill will be put up for a vote in the Albanian parliament on Thursday.

Albanian PM Sali Berisha said last week that his government was "interested more than anyone else" is seeing a full investigation carried out in the case.

Previously, both the authorities in Priština, and the Albanian government rejected the Marty report as false.

The report, submitted in late 2010 by Council of Europe special rapporteur Dick Marty, links the ethnic Albanian "Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA)" with kidnappings of Serb and other civilians in Kosovo, their illegal imprisonment in northern Albania, and sale of their body parts in the international black market.

The Marty report concerns crimes committed in 1999 and 2000.

The EU tasked U.S. prosecutor John Clint Williamson with carrying out the probe on its behalf.

Serbia, however, is also seeking a UN-led investigation into the alleged atrocities, and has the support of Russia and China for this in the UN Security Council.
