Besnik Mustafaj on Italian and Greek effects in Albanian politics

Besnik Mustafaj on Italian and Greek effects in Albanian politics
On Top Channel's studio, Besnik Mustafaj commented about the rapid political developments in Greece and Italy and their impact in Albania.

Mustafaj declared that the changes in Albania’s neighbor countries, Berlusconi’s era that came to an end and the technical Greek government for avoiding economic collapse, are result of irreparable crises caused by the government of the respective countries, but these changes show that democracy and the nation’s best are what prevail above the personal interests of these leaders.

The former Foreign Minister declared that for the first time, both these countries are led by bankers who are expected to solve their economy by improving this way the remittances of Albanian emigrants in both countries, and that he hopes that the Italian new Prime Minister will not change the Italian programs in Albania.

Asked on how it is possible that the Albanian leaders made peace today for two consequent hours, after two years of harsh clashes and blocked reforms, Mustafaj declared that both leaders became mature and that this consensus produces a favorable climate for Albania.

He added that the consensus for the laws that require qualified majority are too small compared to the economic situation, which the Albanian opposition and ruling parties should not leave out of serious consideration. Mustafaj’s opinion is that rather then minimizing the democratic space for the small parties, this agreement should bring a correction of the mistakes of 2008. He hopes that this agreement is really for the country’s sake and that everyone must put hopes on the consensus.

When asked if this agreement would last and what novelties could it bring, Mustafaj declared that Berisha’s known pragmatism might prevail and Rama maybe has finally understood which road he must follow for the future of the country and his political career.
