The meeting of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić with High Representative for Foreign Policy Josep Borrell and EU Special Representative Miroslav Lajcak began at 9:00 a.m. in Brussels, Tanjug was told in the Mission of Serbia to the EU.
Borelj previously conducted a separate meeting with the prime minister of the temporary institutions of Pristina, Albin Kurti, from eight o'clock.
After separate meetings, a joint meeting between Borrell with Vučić and Kurti is planned.
An urgent meeting within the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is being held at the invitation of Borrell, and the focus is on finding a way out of the current crisis in Kosovo.
The EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, announced earlier that at eight o'clock the meetings will begin, first separately, with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and the Prime Minister of Pristina's temporary institutions, Albin Kurti. This will be followed by a joint meeting with the two leaders, the EU External Affairs Service announced.
The focus of the dialogue, which will be held with the support of the EU special representative Miroslav Lajcak, according to the announcement from Brussels, will be to avoid further escalation and tensions on the ground, with an emphasis on license plates and the return of Serbs to institutions.
It is necessary to stop with constant crisis management and move towards the normalization of relations, the head of EU diplomacy said last night. President Vučić, however, is not optimistic and does not think that an agreement will be reached in Brussels.
He assessed the situation in Kosovo and Metohija as the most difficult in the last decade and noted that the problem is not only in the license plates. However, he does not want to allow someone to say that Serbia did not want to participate in the talks. He hopes that there will be no conflict in the southern province, stressing that peace depends only on the international community and whether they will put pressure on Pristina.
Borrell also warned of a possible escalation, saying that the deadline set by Pristina must not be met without an agreement "or we will be on the verge of a very dangerous situation".
Tensions in Kosovo and Metohija have increased due to Pristina's announcement that as of tomorrow it will start fining the owners of vehicles with Serbian license plates, despite appeals from the United States of America and the European Union, which sent several calls to Kurti to postpone the implementation of the decision on license plates, but also to respects the Brussels Agreement.
The Serbs in the north do not want to change the Serbian plates of the acronyms of the cities in Kosovo and Metohija, because they are told that it is one of the last connections with central Serbia.
That is why, but also because of Pristina's refusal to implement the Brussels Agreement and form the Community of Serbian Municipalities, two weeks ago they left the institutions in Pristina and in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, including more than 500 policemen.
EULEX patrols have been on the streets in the north since then, to be additionally reinforced in recent days.
