Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic condemned former Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj’s statement on a possible union with Albania as a threat to Serbia, the region and Europe.

Haradinaj, a candidate for president of Kosovo, said that he would call for a referendum on a union of Kosovo and Albania in 2025 if no progress is made towards membership in the European Union.

“The response to that should not be a threat. You do what you want and we will have a good and adequate response. The public should not be worried,” Vucic said commenting Haradinaj’s statement of a day earlier. The Serbian president said that he would like to hear a response from Brussels or Washington.

Vucic said that if Haradinaj is elected president, the situation could become very bad with a Kosovo government and president advocating a union with Albania. “We will know how to react to that. I am not threatening anyone but the creation of a Greater Albania is a threat to Serbia, the region and Europe and to the world,” He said.
