In a symbolic post written in Greek on Thursday, French President Emmanuel Macron, through his official Facebook account, reiterated his solidarity with Greece and Cyprus.

At a time when the sovereignty of Greece and Cyprus are questioned by Turkey, Macron said that Europe “should not leave our security in the Mediterranean in the hands of other actors.”

“I want to express France’s full solidarity with Cyprus and Greece in the face of Turkish violations of their sovereign rights. We must not accept that the maritime space of an EU Member State is threatened, ” Macron wrote in Greek.

The post of the French President in detail:

“Europe needs to take a closer look at security issues in the Mediterranean. I will soon convene a conference of the countries of the South of the European Union.

In the Mediterranean, energy and security issues are fundamental. They are becoming the subject of controversy by emerging forces that the European Union still has little influence over. Europe must defend its sovereignty.

Let us not leave our security in the Mediterranean in the hands of other actors. Once again, I want to express France’s full solidarity with Cyprus and Greece in the face of Turkish violations of their sovereign rights. We must not allow the maritime space of an EU Member State to be threatened.

In Libya, we can not allow other forces to violate the arms embargo. Operation Irini is one of Europe’s answers. It needs to be further strengthened.”
