Tsipras to speak at UN's General Assembly on Oct 1, to meet Obama
Alexis Tsipras will make his first visit to the United States as prime minister on September 26 to participate in the 70th meeting of the UN’s General Assembly, where he will address the assembly on October 1, it was announced on Friday.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Tsipras will meet with counterparts from Cyprus, Egypt, Brazil, Equator, Palestine and Turkey. He will also meet with the US Secretary of State John Kerry and the UN’s Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. A meeting with US President Barack Obama is also scheduled on the sidelines of the meeting.
Tsipras will also participate in a summit meeting for “Post-2015 Development Agenda” and a separate meeting on migration, titled "Strengthening cooperation on migration and refugee movements under the new development” on September 30.
He is also scheduled to meet His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America, New York mayor Bill de Blasio and representatives of diaspora organisations and will participate in a panel organized by the Clinton Global Initiative, the former US President Bill Clinton.
He will return to Greece on October 2.
