Albania: little progress on EU integration

The new Albania takes a step backwards in its EU aspirations: the recent election of new President, Bujar Niashani gave a new proof of the lack of political unity of the country: Niashani it was voted by one majority, after a confrontation with the 'opposition ended in a stalemate.

Peter Stano, spokesman for EU Commissioner for Enlargement said that at this point is difficult to see positive signs or other developments that may lead Albania to take the next step in the integration process: the possibility that we can proceed to take the status of the candidate country are now remote.

At this point you just have to wait the usual reports of the European Commission in autumn, in which the body will present its assessments, drawing a clearer picture of the state of the EU integration process of Albania.
