Albania's opposition Socialist Party says it will hold a rally next week to protest alleged vote rigging by Prime Minister Sali Berisha's governing Democratic Party.
The Socialists are boycotting the new parliament and demanding an investigation into the June 28 elections. The Democrats deny there was any vote-rigging. Berisha's conservative party and its allies control 75 of Parliament's 140 seats, and the Socialists have 65.
International election monitors have reported improvements over previous elections, but say Albania still failed to fully meet international standards. Socialist officials said Thursday the protest would be held Oct. 10 in the capital, Tirana.
