TIRANA, Albania. The Central Election Commission and the interior ministry signed a co-operation agreement Tuesday (May 19th) to ensure free and democratic elections next month. The ministry pledged to take all necessary measures to guarantee transparent and peaceful voting, in line with European and international standards.
Also Tuesday, the ruling Democratic Party (DP) and the main opposition Socialist Party published their lists of candidates for the June 28th elections. Prime Minister Sali Berisha, who leads the DP, told reporters the current government deserves another mandate, given its efforts on behalf of NATO membership and EU accession.
