The arrests were carried out following raids at 18 locations, mostly in Brussels, the statement added, Reuters reported.

In July 2025, Brussels police informed the public prosecutor’s office about a conspiracy aimed at assassinating the chief prosecutor in Brussels.

According to the prosecutor, the main suspects in the conspiracy have criminal records related to drug trafficking and are active within the Albanian criminal mafia.

In recent years, Brussels has been shaken by violence linked to drug gang activity, and officials note that more than 100 of Europe’s most dangerous criminal networks operate in Belgium, Reuters recalled.

In February this year, authorities were forced to close several metro stations in the capital while a manhunt was underway for two suspects following a shooting linked to drug traffickers.
