Albania extends state of emergency over coronavirus spread Albania's parliament/LSA
TIRANA (Albania), April 23 (SeeNews) – Albania’s parliament said on Thursday it has endorsed a government decision to extend the state of emergency until June 23 in response to the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country.
The decision was approved in a 91-5 vote with three abstentions in the 140-seat parliament, the assembly said in a press release.
The state of emergency has been in force since March 24.
The rights to movement, gatherings and work guaranteed by the constitution will be limited to an extent considered necessary for achieving the protection of people's health, the parliament said.
Earlier, the government imposed a countrywide curfew from 5.30 pm to 5.00 am in an effort to limit the spread of the disease.
Albania confirmed 29 new cases of the coronavirus disease on Thursday, bringing the total number to 663, the health ministry said in a press release.
Fatalities from the disease have reached 27.
