US strike group has launched some 70 combat sorties against Daesh terrorists in Syria and Iraq since the beginning of its operations from an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean Sea on June 3, the US Navy said in a press release on Wednesday.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Friday, the Unite States
launched its first sorties in support of the fight against the Daesh
from an an aircraft carrier the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. The strike
group includes the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman,
the guided missile cruiser USS Anzio and the destroyer USS Gonzalez,
according to the release.
"Strike group aircraft launched 68 combat sorties and delivered 52
precision guided munitions to targets in Iraq and Syria to dislocate
ISIL [Daesh] leadership, target fighters, and degrade the terrorist
group's finance generating capacity," the release stated.
The US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been carrying out airstrikes against the Daesh in Syria and Iraq since summer 2014.
Daesh is a terrorist group outlawed in the United States, Russia and numerous other countries.
