Turkey slams 'provocative' Greek defence minister Kammenos
First entry: 8 March 2015
Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos came under fire over the weekend from Ankara, which accused him of having a “provocative attitude” toward Turkey.
“We invite the Greek government to display common sense and to take these irresponsible actions under control as soon as possible,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“It is clear that the continuation of these irresponsible actions will not serve any purpose other than increasing tensions in Turkish and Greek relations and in the Aegean,” it said.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Agora newspaper on Saturday, the junior coalition partner said that if foreign creditors insist on a hard line toward Greece, the government might be tempted to respond with a referendum.
“If [lenders] question the will of the Greek people and of the government, one response would be to carry out a referendum,” he said.
