Ecumenical Patriarch inaugurates cathedral in Tirana; gov't leaders attend

ANA-MPA - The new Greek Orthodox cathedral, Resurrection of Christ, was inaugurated in Tirana by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and several heads of Orthodox churches from other countries including Greece and Moscow, in a ceremony that was attended by the leading officials of Albania.
Bartholomew was assisted in the liturgy by the patriarchs of Jerusalem (Theofilos), Serbia (Irineos) and Romania (Daniel); the archbishops of Cyprus (Chryssostomos), Athens and All Greece (Ieronymos), Warsaw (Savvas) and Tirana and All Albania (Anastasios); and metropolitans representing the patriarchates of Alexandria, Antioch, Moscow, Bulgaria and Georgia.
The ceremony and related events were attended by Albanian President of the Republic Bujar Nishani, President of Parliament Ilir Meta, Prime Minister Edi Rama, and main opposition leader and Tirana Mayor Lulzim Basha. They will all formally welcome the visiting church leaders on Monday morning.
Bartholomew arrived in Tirana on Saturday afternoon.
