Serbia, Germany agree military cooperation plan for 2014

BERLIN, BELGRADE - A 2014 military cooperation plan between the Defense Ministries of Germany and Serbia was agreed during three-day defense consultations that ended in Berlin on Wednesday.

The two ministries jointly stated that they are both interested in a qualitative and quantitative improvement of cooperation in the field of defense and in continuation of high-level visits, the Serbian Defense Ministry said in a release.

The cooperation is centered on military education, military medicine and preparations for participation in multinational operations, the Serbian Defense Ministry said on its website.

The Serbian Defense Ministry delegation, who were on a visit to Berlin on November 18-20, was led by Colonel Milan Konjikovac.

The delegation of German Federal Ministry of Defense was headed by Frigate Captain Martin Breithaupt.

Konjikovac put forward a proposal to conduct joint exercises, establish cooperation between peacekeeping operations and CBRN defense centers and participate jointly in multinational operations.

He stressed the importance of reciprocity in the implementation of training of officers at all levels of military schooling, the Serbian Defense Ministry said.

Serbia is among top priority countries when it comes to Germany's defense cooperation with non-NATO countries, Breithaupt said, welcoming the expressed intentions to intensify defense cooperation.
