Albania - Greece : " Martial law is still in force

Official document of the Greek Foreign Ministry sent to the Albanian embassy in Athens on June 28, 1999, showing clearly the Greek position on the war between the two countries.

The letter sent to the English language , it denies the statements made yesterday by the Greek Foreign Minister , Evangelos Venizelos , who said that the law of war has been removed from Greece in 1987 , notes the publication of the Albanian newspaper century ' .

The letter dated June 28, 1999 wrote:
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs , in response to the concern of the Albanian Embassy , said that the number of Law 2636 of 1940 and Law No. 4560 of 1966 is still in force ."
The date of this letter is after August 1987, when the Greek government by decree of the Papandreou government , abolished the state of war with Albania.
Additionally, this act described as inadequate , because such recognition should be issued following a decision by Parliament, or decree of the President of the Republic.
The request was made three years after the conclusion of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation with former President Sali Berisha , between Albania and Greece

But the document presented today , which is in the archives of the Foreign Ministries of the two countries since 1999, shows that friendship and cooperation is still under the shadow of war.
The articulation of the Albanian diplomacy to repeal this law comes for a second time, after a similar request in Greece , - which was not given to the media - made by former Foreign Minister Edmond Panariti .
The Albanian government insists - beyond all this - to withdraw this decision legally , from the Greek parliament.

However , this move will bring many consequences , because the war is associated with many problems, such as Chams , properties and assets are not recognized by the Greek side.
But as with courage the Albanian government highlighted this issue , so he could settle it for both Chams as well as sea borders.

Particularly at a time when Greece from January takes place as the EU presidency and Albania  aspires to obtain the status of candidate country in December , says the Albanian newspaper .
