Chief of General Staff of the Greek Armed Forces Mikhail Kostarakos visits Albania

This morning, the Minister of Defence, Mr. Arben Imami met in a special meeting the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Greece, General Mikhail Kostarakos, who heads a senior Greek military delegation in an official visit in Tirana. The purpose of the visit of the Greek military delegation is defence cooperation between the two neighbouring countries. Defence Minister Imami, after welcoming in Tirana General Mikhail Kostarakos and the delegations he heads, appreciated the help and support that the Greek Armed Forces have given to our Armed Forces, as well as for the political support Greece gave to Albania for its membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.

Minister Imami emphasized that the two countries have very good relations and expressed the appraisal for the continuous support given by Greece in the education field to the Albanian military, which is one of the main priorities of the Albanian Armed Forces.

Another important issue discussed during the meeting, between Defence Minister, Mr. Arben Imami and General Kostarakos, was the exchange of academic military staff and students for strategic courses. The expansion of this initiative with the other countries of the region will increase cooperation with the neighbouring countries and will significantly improve relations between the Balkan countries.

For his part, General Mikhail Kostarakos thanked Defence Minister, Mr. Arben Imami for the reception reserved and expressed Greece’s support for the intensification and deepening of relations between the two countries and the two Armed Forces. He stated to be ready for the exchange initiative of academic satff and military students. This, said General Kostarakos, will enable the improvement of the preparation in the field of military education.

Earlier, Chief of General Staff of the Greek Armed Forces, General Mikhail Kostarakos was welcomed with the Guard of Honour by the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Xhemal Gjunkshi. During the meeting with the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces Major General Xhemal Gjunkshi, it was discussed about the military cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence.

Also today, the Chief the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Greece, General Mikhail Kostarakos accompanied by the Chief of General Staff of the Albanian Armed Forces, Major General Xhemal Gjunkshi paid homage at the Cemetery of the Martyrs.
