Serbia, within Yugoslavia, designed 4 combat and training jets of its own design "Jastreb","Galeb", "Orao" (in co-production with Romania" and "Super Galeb". Yugoslavia's "Novi Avion" project for supersonic IV generation aircraft which would replace obsolete MiG-21 was cancelled in 1990.

Now Serbia is on way of development of LIFT with co-operation of UAE and other financiers and co-producers. LIFT is a hybrid between advanced training supersonic jet (MACH 1.5) and light attack and defensive fighter.
