Many Greeks Seek to Move Abroad to Escape the Financial Crisis
Due to the current financial turmoil many Greeks are seeking to move abroad for better opportunities. According to a recent poll about four out of ten Greeks which represent 38% of the population, say they are ready to abandon their country and home and establish a new residence as job loss fears rise.
Important to note is the corresponding percentage of the European Union, which is significantly higher at approximately 48%. According to EU research Cyprus, Sweden, and France have the highest percentages of would be migration at 66% while Portugal has the lowest at 31%.
Recently thousands of Greeks have applied to move abroad; the majority of them are educated and young. The USA, UK, Canada & Australia are the most desired destinations.
