Conference on Western Balkans in March?

EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton supports Slovenian PM Borut Pahor’s intention to organize an international conference on Western Balkans in March.

The Slovenian PM has launched the initiative together with Croatian counterpart Jadranka Kosor and this should be the first meeting of all political leaders from the region after 18 years.

The conference would be organized by Slovenia, Croatia, the Council of Europe and the European Commission.

Representatives of Kosovo, which would be “represented in an appropriate way”, should also attend the conference.

According to a statement from Pahor, the goal of the gathering would be to look for solutions for some of the open issues in the region, but he added that expectations should be “well measured out”.
