Government decides to sue Croatia for genocide

The Serbian government has decided to sue Croatia for genocide before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague.

The lawsuit will be filed for the crimes committed against Croatia's ethnic Serb population between 1991 and 1995.

The government's media office announced today in Belgrade that the decision was made after consultations held by President Boris Tadić and Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković.

Serbia's case will be a countersuit, considering that Croatia also sued Serbia for genocide before the same court in 1999.

Zagreb alleges that the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SRJ) was guilty of violating the Convention of Prevention and Punishment of Genocide during the 1991-1995 armed conflict in Croatia.
