Montenegro's Special Prosecution said that Markovic was arrested on suspicion he abused his official position. He was questioned and will be detained for up to 72 hours.
Tanjug is reporting that Marovic during the questioning today denied the accusations against him.

Podgorica daily Vijesti reported earlier that the arrest came on the order of Montenegro's special prosecutor, Milivoje Katanic.

Montenegrin website CDM said that Katanic earlier hinted at Marovic's arrest, stressing that "the head of the organized criminal group in Budva had been identified" and that the investigation would soon be expanded to include this person, related to corruption cases known as Jaz Plateau and TQ Plaza.

According to the website, all key actors in the so-called Budva Affair have admitted they are guilty for causing damages worth several million euros to this seaside municipality and to the state.

Marovic's son Milos, his brother Dragan, and aunt Mirjana are all already in prison, while legal procedures are underway against his daughter Milena Marovic-Bogdanovic, and his son's mother-in-law, Dragica Popovic.

Marovic, who is currently president of the political council of Montenegro's ruling DPS party, in the past served as Montenegrin parliament speaker.
