Corfu is looking towards the international scenes with very intense weekend in NATO-Russia axis, but also with the Agency for Development and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

NATO and Russia "conflict" in a mini extraordinary session. The rapprochement of the North Atlantic Alliance with the great «enemy», especially after the crisis has caused a policy of the U.S. President George Bush, who desired to put the controversial missile shield in eastern Europe and the clear break caused by the war in South Ossetia and Georgia.

So declared the opening of the large energy concerns particularly Europe. Will also discuss the maintenance of the OSCE observers in Georgia and South Ossetia, and the difference of political positions that have on European Security, Americans and Russians.

Particularly NATO and OSCE will follow observing the process election in Albania, calling Tirana for free and democratic standards during final results. Albania hope to joint EU but the international community has urged Tirana to hold free elections, while will be very serious the consequences for the country if the elections will demonstrate negative results.

Extraordinary meeting Karamanlis-Berlusconi in Corfu

Papandreou visits Tirana suporting Edi Rama coalition

Chameria Party meeting with Macedonian Organisation

Greek village demolished in Southern Albania (North Epirus)

Albania inaugurates new highway to Kosovo (Greater Albania)

The opening ceremony in Rreshen, 37 miles (60 kilometers) north of Tirana came just days ahead of Albania's parliamentary election this weekend, even though portions of the highway have not been completed.«This is the corridor of friendship and peace,» Berisha said to applause from supporters waving Albanian and European Union flags. «This corridor will serve not only to Albanians, but also to Macedonians, Serbs, Bosnians, Bulgarians and all the others.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan also attended the ceremony for the link, which includes a segment with a 3.4-mile (5.5-kilometer) tunnel built by a joint venture of Turkey's Enka and San Francisco-based Bechtel International Inc.Erdogan said the highway would «further impact Kosovo's development» after it gained independence from Serbia last year.Kosovo's premier had been expected at the ceremony but did not show up. Thaci's office in Pristina, Kosovo said the premier's agenda had been busy, and he had already left on a trip to the United States.

The highway will run from the port city of Durres, 20 miles (35 kilometers) west of Tirana, to the Morini border crossing with Kosovo.Albania joined NATO this year and has applied for European Union candidate status. KSAMIL, Albania, June 25 (Reuters) -- Fatmir Murati liked the patch of public land across the street from his apartment so much, he built a house there. Speckled with lemon and orange trees, the terrain is a political battleground.

The fact thousands like him have no clarity about who owns what land is a legacy of the longest-lasting Stalinist regime in Europe. It's also a major campaign topic as Albania, an emerging democracy that aspires to join the European Union, heads to the polls at the end of this month.
Both Sali Berisha, the country's dominant political figure since Communism's fall in 1991, and Socialist challenger Edi Rama say land titling is a priority as Albania seeks foreign investment.

The country in April became NATO's 28th member, after a tumultuous 1990s including a crime wave, marred elections and a dip into anarchy. Many Albanians lost their savings in pyramid schemes and up to 3,000 were killed in the ensuing violence............

............Suela Pogace, general manager of the Hotel Adriatik in Durres, an Adriatic town near Tirana, describes her thoughts when looking across the wild melange of construction along the coast.

Albanians, Cut Off, Get Set to Vote

TIRANA, ALBANIA — With parliamentary elections approaching on Sunday, many Albanians say they feel like Hysen Demiraj, a 45-year-old driver and former political prisoner, who was born in a jail cell during Albania’s brutal dictatorship and says he still feels imprisoned in a country that is unfairly isolated and ostracized.


“We Albanians are tired of feeling cut off from the world,” he said on a recent day after waiting for hours in scorching sun for a German visa, one among a small army of visa-seekers. “We are the forgotten part of Europe and it doesn’t feel so good.”


The intense alienation might seem surprising given that this poor, southern Balkan country joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in April — a moment of enormous symbolic and psychological resonance for a place severed from the west for more than 40 years under the Stalinist leader Enver Hoxha.



Whether the election is peaceful, free and democratic, analysts and diplomats say, will help determine the progress toward international rehabilitation. Albania’s recent application for E.U. membership already faces deep skepticism; the bloc is overextended and fears admitting lawlessness through the back door. Washington, meanwhile, which lobbied hard for Albania’s NATO membership, will be deeply embarrassed if the vote goes awry.

US, EU renew Albania poll plea

Albania must hold free and fair elections next month if it hopes to form closer ties with the West, the European Union and United States said Friday, hours after a regional party leader was killed in a bomb explosion. Police have released few details about the bomb attack that killed 34-year-old regional leader Aleksander Keka, a member of the conservative Christian Democratic Party, as he was driving his car Thursday near Shkodra, a city 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of Tirana.

It was the latest in a series of violent incidents that have marred campaigning for the June 28 vote in this former Communist country, where elections are often tarnished by violence and voting irregularities. The U.S. Embassy said the June 28 elections were a test of the country's commitment to democracy, while the Czech Embassy _ speaking on behalf of the EU _ said the vote would show whether Albania was ready to move closer toward integration with the bloc. The Czech Republic now holds the rotating EU presidency.

Albania joined NATO this year and has applied for EU candidate status. Some 500 observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and other international organizations will be monitoring the elections, in which conservative Prime Minister Sali Berisha faces a strong challenge from Socialist leader Edi Rama. Last week, a man was fatally shot following an argument over a campaign poster, and in May an opposition lawmaker was killed.

The opposition has claimed the government is seeking to manipulate the election process through its control over the distribution of new identity cards, which together with passports are the documents required to vote. The government denies the allegation.

US Urges Calm After Albania Politician Murder

US ambassador John L WithersThe US Embassy in Tirana has urged Albanian politicians to maintain a "peaceful environment" in the run-up to elections after a local party boss was killed by an explosive device placed in his car.

“We urge the Government of Albania and all political actors to work together to maintain a peaceful environment where all Albanians who wish to do so can vote with a calm and peaceful mind on June 28,” said the embassy in a statement.“We once again express our hope and expectation that the upcoming elections are in full accordance with international standards.”

Aleksander Keka, the local head of the Christian Democratic Party in the Malsia e Madhe region in Northern Albania, was found dead early on Thursday after his car exploded and went off-road close to the city of Shkodra. The 38-year-old was found a few metres from his burning car on the highway linking the town of Koplik with Shkodra. Police are still investigating the cause of the explosion.

The death comes just days ahead of the June 28 parliamentary elections, which are seen as key for Albania’s EU accession hopes. With Albania newly promoted to NATO membership and EU candidate status, the ballot is seen as a crucial test of the country's democratic credentials.EU officials in Brussels and Tirana have said the poll will be considered a litmus test for the EU aspirations of the Albanian government.

The election campaign has already been marred by murder after a supporter of the opposition party killed a 25-year-old activist from the ruling Democratic Party in the village of Qerret, close to the town of Durres.On May 4, opposition deputy Fatmir Xhindi was gunned down outside his home in the town of Roskovec in Southern Albania. Xhindi’s murder remains a mystery to this day. No suspects have been identified.

An explosive device killed a conservative politician as he drove through northern Albania on Thursday, 10 days ahead of the country's parliamentary election, police said. The leader of the victim's political party called it a terrorist attack, but police suggested organized crime groups may have been responsible. Albanian electoral campaigns often are tense and marred by violence and irregularities.

Last week, a man was fatally shot following an argument over a campaign poster, and in May an opposition lawmaker was killed. Police said Aleksander Keka, a 34-year-old regional leader of Albania's opposition Christian Democratic Party, died in the explosion while driving near Shkodra, a city 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of Tirana, the capital.

Police said an explosive device was used, but did not say whether it was hidden in the car or on the road the vehicle was traveling. Police said Keka was alone in the car, not with a passenger who was injured, as authorities had reported earlier. Christian Democratic Party leader Nard Ndoka called Keka's death an act of terrorism and said he had been waiting to meet the regional leader in Shkodra when the explosion occurred.

"It was a clear political attack, a terrorist act," Ndoka said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. He said he believed the bomb had been detonated by remote control, based on accounts given by local residents near the scene of the blast. The Christian Democrats were until recently part of the governing coalition of Prime Minister Sali Berisha.

A delegation from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe will be monitoring the June 28 election, during which the conservative Berisha will face a challenge from Edi Rama, the Socialist leader and the mayor of Tirana. Keka was not a candidate in the parliamentary election. Police alleged in a statement that Keka had ties with organized crime groups who may have been responsible for the explosion that killed him, but Ndoka angrily rejected that possibility."That is a dirty slander. ... Clearly, this act was politically inspired," he said.

Club Med quits Albania resort, cites land problems

TIRANA, June 16 (Reuters) - France's Club Mediterranee has quit a project to operate a holiday resort on Albania's Ionian coast after a prolonged dispute over the ownership of the site, a letter by Club Med revealed on Tuesday.

The five-year old controversy over who owned the horseshoe shaped bay facing Greece's holiday island of Corfu illustrates the confusion over title to property in post-communist Albania, a tangled problem deterring investment.

The European Union, which expects Albania to break with its history with free and fair elections on June 28, has also urged it to solve the problem of disputed titles to attract foreign investors and meet the criteria for membership.

'There's no project for a Club Med in Albania,' Florence Le Gall, Club Mediterranee's director of regional development, wrote to villagers claiming ownership of the land at Kakome, near Sarande in southern Albania.

Chrystel Baude, a Club Med spokeswoman, confirmed the authenticity of Le Gall's letter.

Completion of a tunnel under a 60 km (37 miles) stretch of road linking the Albanian coastal resort of Durres to the border with Kosovo will slash hours off travelling time for Kosovan holidaymakers heading for the sea. Erdogan will join Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha to inaugurate the highway on June 25.

The 61-kilometer highway is constructed by a consortium of U.S. company Bechtel and Turkish construction firm Enka. It will lower the 6-hour travel time to 2 hours from Albanian city of Drac to Kosovo's border gate Morina. Albania began considering building the road when the United Nations and NATO took control of Kosovo in 1999 after ousting the Serb forces of late war crimes suspct Slobodan Milosevic, but it was Berisha who pushed the project forward.


When the 160 km road is finally completed next year at a total cost of 1.1 billion euros ($1.557 bln) the trip of around six hours to Kosovo's border from the Albanian capital of Tirana will take just two hours. In the past, Kosovars have had to face a gruelling eight-hour trip, often via Macedonia, to reach Albania's beaches.

10 Kosovo MPs demand: Prizreni to be next "Albanian Capital"

Pristina-Ten Members of Kosovo Parliament have asked the Presidency of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo in the next plenary session to introduce the agenda request to debate and decide which Prizreni declared capital of the Republic of Kosovo.

"The Parliament obligates the Kosovo Government to prepare a legal infrastructure to carry the state administration in Prizren in Kosovo on 10 June 2016", reportedly at the request of 10 deputies.

According to them, request Prizreni declared the capital of Kosovo, above all with historical significance that has this city for the population of Kosovo in general and in particular to the Albanian people.

Macedonia: Albanian Group Seeks Federalization

SkopjeA group of right-wing ethnic Albanian politicians during a Wednesday press conference demanded the federalization of Macedonia based on the Swiss and Belgian models.
The group, headed by Hisni Shakiri, Sefedin Haruni, Bardulj Mahmuti and Nevzat Halili from the “Ilirida” movement, is not advocating renewed armed conflict with the state, but urging constitutional changes that would allow ethnic Albanians, who comprise one-quarter of the country's population, equal rights.The group is not part of any of the country's major political parties.

“The Albanian language is not equal with the Macedonian [language]; the Albanians are not equal with the Macedonians,” Halili opined at the press conference, asking for recognition of the fact that the Albanians in Macedonia are autochthonous. The group’s stances are similar to those expressed in April by the controversial ethnic Albanian local leader, Rufi Osmani, who then urged the creation of a bi-national Macedonia. In 2001, Macedonia suffered a short armed conflict between ethnic Albanian insurgents and the state. The armed clashes ended the same year with the signing of the Ohrid peace accord, which granted greater rights to ethnic Albanians.

Greater involvement in the police, army and administration as well as official use of the Albanian language in the areas where the population is dominant are among the provisions of the peace deal. Media have been citing local analysts as saying that the radicalization of some Albanian entities in Macedonia following the peace deal is the aftermath of the stalemate in which the country finds itself over the heated name dispute with Greece and the Greek blockage on Macedonia's NATO accession.

Opinion polls show that Albanians would rather sacrifice the country’s name for swift accession to NATO and the EU, unlike Macedonians, who view the issue as central to their national dignity and identity. The group was supported in their demands by the Student’s Association of Tetovo State University, the Association of Insurgents Veterans from the 2001 conflict, and several other citizens’ associations.

Albanian man killed over election campaign poster

Albanian police say a man has been fatally shot following an argument over a party campaign poster for the upcoming general election.Police say the 32-year-old governing Democratic Party supporter died in a hospital after being shot with an assault rifle Friday. A 45-year-old suspect has been arrested.

Police spokesman Klodian Branko said the quarrel started when the suspect _ an opposition supporter _ objected to the victim sticking up a large Democratic Party poster in the village of Qerret, outside the capital Tirana.

An OSCE delegation will be monitoring the June 28 vote, in which conservative Prime Minister Sali Berisha will face a challenge from Socialist leader and Tirana mayor Edi Rama.

Οι εξελίξεις στα Βαλκάνια γίνονται σήμερα υπό την εντολή του ΝΑΤΟ. Όλες οι δράσεις που πραγματοποιήθηκαν αμέσως μετά την επίσκεψη του αντιπροέδρου Αμερικανό Joe Biden, ο οποίος πέρασε το τελευταίο μήνα στα Βαλκάνια.

Αναλυτές γεωπολιτικής περιγράφαν την επίσκεψη ως αποστολή ημιτελή Ουάσιγκτον στα Βαλκάνια. Απλά φαίνεται ότι ξεκίνησε oι πρώτη κίνηση. Γαλλoς διαμεσολαβητής, Σαρκοζί, καλώντας τον Πρόεδρο της Σερβίας Τάντιτς, όπως και το Κοσσυφοπέδιο προέδρου, Sejdiu. Μετά από συναντήσεις με τον Γάλλο Πρόεδρο συζητούν άλλα θέματα που ανήκουν σε μια νέα διπλωματία στο Κοσσυφοπέδιο μεταξύ Σέρβων και Αλβανών.. πρόκειται για ανταλλαγή!

Στη συνέχεια, έχουμε και άλλη συνάντηση αρχηγών στρατού στα Βαλκάνια, που είναι η δημιουργία διαδρόμων συνεργασίας του Βελιγραδίου στο πλαίσιο του ΝΑΤΟ διπλωματία. Αποστολή αλλαγές "ημιτελής στα Βαλκάνια" προχωρεί με άλλη προσφορά του, τη μείωση των στρατευμάτων της από το Κοσσυφοπέδιο. Είχε αποφασιστεί εδώ και πολύ καιρό, τότε αποπέμπεται μια απόφαση που θα πρέπει να μειωθούν τα στρατεύματα του ΝΑΤΟ, ίσως να σταλούν στο Αφγανιστάν ή στην περιοχή μας.

Το ΝΑΤΟ φαίνεται να είναι ικανοποιημένος, ενώ το Παρίσι θέλει να έχει μεγάλη βαρύτητα σε οδηγεί η συμμαχία της στρατιωτικής ηγεσίας. Και ενώ στο Κοσσυφοπέδιο, αποφάσισε να μειώσει τα στρατεύματα, χάρη στη διπλωματία του Τάντιτς, ο οποίος Joe Biden εγγύηση ότι "το Βελιγράδι δεν έχει την πρόθεση να κάνει πόλεμο στο Κοσσυφοπέδιο, αλλά είναι πρόθυμη να προτείνει νέες ιδέες, ακόμη και την ανταλλαγή" , στην Αδριατική, το ΝΑΤΟ εξακολουθεί να είναι αρκετές μέρες από μια ναυτική στρατηγικης με τη μεγαλύτερη συγκέντρωση των στρατευμάτων υπό τη διοίκηση της Bruxelles.

10 φρεγάτες και άλλα πολεμικά σκάφη από την Ελλάδα, Ιταλία, Κροατία, Μαυροβούνιο, Σλοβενία και Αλβανία, πάνω από 1000 στρατιώτες στο έδαφος ανατολικά της Αδριατικής Θάλασσα Δυρραχίου - Avlona, υπό ασκήσεις "Adrion Livex 09". Η αποστολή του ΝΑΤΟ, παρέχει προσγείωσης κόμμα σε περίπτωση διασυνοριακής κρίσης.

Και είναι πρωταγωνιστής η Τίρανα, oxι μόνο στη θάλασσα, αλλά και στην περιοχή. Μπορεί να βοηθήσει το Κοσσυφοπέδιο Ασφαλείας Σώματος, στο πλαίσιο της KFOR. Μεγάλη παιχνίδι, αφενός καταρτίζει στρατευμάτων του ΝΑΤΟ στο Κοσσυφοπέδιο και στην άλλη πλευρά του εκτείνεται στην Αδριατική.
